Honorees 2008:

Preston Pearson
It was a great day for Dallas dogs and cats when Preston Pearson became their advocate! How often does a legend step forward to speak for the over 30,000 innocent animals abandoned on our streets and at the city’s animal facility every year? Not only has Preston chaired this year's Top Hat & Tails fundraiser, he has supported our past events by giving his time and resources to our organization over and over again. He is a “Dallas Cowboy Great” to the sports world…but to us, and to our city’s homeless dogs and cats, Preston Pearson is the man with the heart to love them and the relentless determination to save them. His commitment is an inspiration…truly, he is a “Dallas Great”! We are honored to have him serve on our Advisory Board and Fundraising Chair.

Barking Hound Village
Barking Hound Village is a luxury dog hotel and daycare that specializes in pampering and catering to your dog. Lisa Jones, owner of Barking Hound Village says, "We are fortunate to have a great relationship with Paws In The City and are honored to be able to help some of the homeless dogs in Dallas who need us by reserving a special spot for a foster dog (or two), at all times. Through our foster program, we have been blessed to see 10 of our fosters find loving forever homes, and we look forward to continue our relationship with Paws to see that many more deserving dogs find good homes as well". With no physical shelter, our network of foster homes is our lifeline. But constantly we find an animal in desperate need when we have no foster available….and then it is the incredible generosity of Barking Hound Village that saves this animal’s life. Their donation of kennel space (with doggy day care!), along with the attention their wonderful employees lavish on our rescues, brings heaven to homeless dogs while we search for their forever homes. Never a day goes by when we don’t have a couple of abandoned dogs happily relaxing at Barking Hound Village, and our gratitude to them is beyond words.

Needless Necessities:
Needless Necessities (www.needlessnecessities.com) is Dallas’ premier retail destination for exquisite home furnishings, accessories and gifts. Needless Necessities captures traditional elegance not only with their exquisite furniture and home accessories, but with their imported tabletop dinnerware, signature home fragrances lines, and assortment of unique gifts. The store is proud to be the only "Gold Star" retailer of Vera Bradley in DFW. It was June of 2007 when Needless Necessities invited Paws In The City to have an adopt-a-pet at their storefront on Henderson. Location! Location! Location! Immediately, the number of animals adopted exploded, all because of their advertising of our adoption events and the exposure at this wonderful location in the heart of Uptown! There are no words to thank them for their incredible kindness and compassion. Owners, Don Hatfield and Sam Stidham support many charitable causes and we are so thankful that Paws In The City is one of them. Don and Sam have this to say about why they support Paws in the City, "We have based our business on building relationships with our clients and also our community. When we wanted to identify a cause that included animals and read about the accomplishments of Paws In The City it immediately seemed like it would be a good partnership. We are so happy that we have become a team and have had the ability to provide homes for over 250 dogs. When Don and I go out to meet the puppies that join us for an event it is always tempting to take them all home. We know that is impossible so we take great pleasure in knowing that we are helping on a larger scale. We appreciate all the efforts of Paws In The City and all their volunteers. You are an amazing group.

Gregg Asher
Gregg Asher has been the creative genius behind the fabulous fundraisers for Paws in the City the last few years. As Fundraising Chair, he has given enormous amounts of time and energy to making our events the talk of the town! We are so grateful to him and his dedication to our organization. We decided to give him this year off! A transplant to Dallas via Arkansas, Gregg Asher started his career in the beauty industry at the age of seventeen. During his journey, he has had the opportunity of doing hair for television, film, fashion shows, calendar shoots and celebrity appearances. With his growing connections, he has also had the good fortune of being involved with many great organizations including and most importantly his attachment with Paws in the City. In Gregg's words, "The people I have worked alongside with Paws in the City have not only been inspirational with their tireless efforts and endless hours of dedication but also compassionate toward the cause. Being a pet owner myself has only fueled my efforts in the success of this organization within the community, and for this, I am grateful."

Pete & Mac's Pet Resort
There is no doubt that Pete & Mac's Pet Resort in Las Colinas, Tx. is simply one of the finest in vacation lodging, daycare, professional grooming and training, and a home-away-from home for some of the posh-est, most pampered pets in the Metroplex! Although it is their primary mission to provide secure fun and loving care to the pets of their clients, Pete & Mac's is well aware of overwhelming issue of pet overpopulation, and that countless abandoned, neglected and abused dogs and cats are suffering in our city everyday. That is why Lisa Villella-Brettman, General Manager, and the entire staff of Pete & Mac's Las Colinas Resort are proud to support the wonderful work of Humane Groups, primarily Paws In The City, as they endeavor to find permanent, loving homes to homeless dogs and cats in our community. Whether providing safe and secure lodging when Paws' foster system is at peak capacity, arranging transport in Pete & Mac's company van when volunteer transportation is not available, donating extra food or cat litter when needed; or even arranging to have Pete & Mac's in-house trainer spend a little extra time with a special needs dog to improve adoptability or correct improper behaviors, Lisa and her team at Pete & Mac's have formed a true partnership with Paws In The City with one shared goal - To Save Lives, One Pet at a Time.
